Govt: Housing building boom shows 'real momentum'
The latest building data show there's "real momentum" in Auckland, the Government says.
The figures show that nationally residential building consents jumped by a fifth in July, turning around a decline in June.
Auckland accounted for about 40 percent of all new consents in July.
The city's housing shortage and soaring prices are among the most serious issues the Government faces.
Building and Housing Minister Nick Smith says the figures show:
"The figures are the latest in a series that show strong momentum is under way in Auckland," Dr Smith said.
"The house build rate has grown at over 20 percent per year since 2012 - the longest and strongest period of growth ever."
