Four Greenpeace activists are due back in court after being charged with trespass over an all-day protest on Parliament House.

Johno Smith, Jeff Harrison, Abi Smith and Verena Maeder, are scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court this morning, each charged with one count of trespass.

The charge which carries a maximum penalty of three months in prison.

The group spent a day in June on a third floor ledge overlooking the forecourt, protesting the government's response to climate change.

The protest prompted a review of security at parliament, with questions raised about how they were able to get access to the roof.
