Legal battle over right to see TPP documents
A High Court appeal has been lodged to review Trade Minister Tim Groser's decision to refuse access to documents relating to the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement.
A collection of organisations and individuals including Consumer NZ, Ngati Kahungunu, the Tertiary Education Union, Oxfam, Greenpeace, the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, New Zealand Nurses Organisation and Auckland University law professor Jane Kelsey filed the motion in the High Court at Wellington today.
The application was filed after Mr Groser rejected an Official Information Act request made in January, a decision which was later upheld last week by the Chief Ombudsman.
It is alleged that Mr Groser acted unlawfully in refusing the application.
The applicants are seeking a hearing as soon as possible.
