A new biography claims British Prime Minister David Cameron once put a "private part of his anatomy" into the mouth of a dead pig.

The act was done by a young Mr Cameron during an initiation ritual while he was studying at Oxford University, allege Conservative MP Lord Michael Ashcroft and journalist Isabel Oakeshott in their book Call Me Dave.

The authors say they were told of the incident by a fellow student of Mr Cameron's who went on to becoming an MP, reports the UK's Express newspaper.

"Perhaps it is a case of mistaken identity. Yet it is an elaborate story for an otherwise credible figure to invent," said Mr Ashcroft.

As well as the pig claim, the book alleges Mr Cameron was part of a "dope smoking group" called the Flam Club while a student.

The Prime Minister studied philosophy, politics and economics at the university between 1985 and 1988.
