Former leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in the US, Rachel Dolezal, who was questioned about her actual ethnicity, has finally admitted what has long been suspected: she is a white woman born to white parents.

Despite claiming to be an African-American woman for the majority of her adult life, Ms Dolezal made the admission in an interview with daytime talk show The Real today.

"I acknowledge that I was biologically born white to white parents, but I identify as black," she said.

Ms Dolezal resigned from the NAACP when she came under fire earlier this year after her parents revealed to local media that she was white.
