The scheme that offers $3000 grants as an incentive for unemployed people to work in Christchurch is being extended to other regions.
Social Development Minister Anne Tolley says the 3K to Work scheme, introduced in July last year, has been successful and more than 1700 people have taken advantage of it.
An extra $1.5 million is being put into it, which will help an initial 500 jobseekers move to centres where work is available.
"It makes sense to expand the scheme to support clients who have the opportunity to take up full time employment but are disadvantaged by distance," Mrs Tolley said today.
The focus will be on people aged between 18 and 24 who have been on a benefit for more than six months.
