Labour MP Kris Faafoi has been promoted to the shadow cabinet in a minor reshuffle announced by party leader Andrew Little.
He's taken over the tourism portfolio from Clayton Cosgrove, the long-serving MP who isn't standing for re-election.
"Kris Faafoi is a very talented MP whose hard work has earned him a place in the shadow cabinet," Mr Little said on Tuesday.
"He is instantly recognisable to many New Zealanders and connects well when he's on the road - an invaluable skill when working with the tourism industry."
Mr Faafoi was a television journalist before standing for Labour in the 2010 Mana by-election and winning the seat.
He's giving up the consumer affairs portfolio, which has been handed to David Shearer.
Mr Cosgrove is keeping his commerce, veterans' affairs and associate finance portfolios, and he's taken on a new role as advisor to Mr Little on business issues and engagement.
