Joyce promoting business in US
Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce has left for the United States to promote business opportunities there.
He's interested in the Wold Trade Organisations's Government Procurement Agreement which New Zealand joined in August last year.
It provides New Zealand companies guaranteed access to US government contracts.
"The US government is the world's largest purchaser of goods and services," he said before he left on Monday night.
"Federal government spending is worth more than US$600 (NZ$870) billion a year."
Mr Joyce says New Zealand has a strong international reputation for honesty, integrity, reputable business practices and legal systems.
"This is a great `brand' for New Zealand companies to build from," he said.
He's leading a delegation of exporters and wants to get the attention of US government departments.
