Bill to outlaw maritime terrorism, trafficking weapons

New maritime offences are being created to implement New Zealand's obligations under international treaties.

They're in the Maritime Crimes Amendment Bill, which passed its first reading in Parliament on Tuesday.

The Bill introduces new offences covering:

The bill also introduced a new maritime boarding regime.

It passed its first reading unanimously and has been sent to a select committee for public submissions.
