At least one Aucklander is seeing red over mayoral candidate Phil Goff's blue billboards, laying a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Complainant M Yorston said Mr Goff's blue and white billboards could "mislead voters who associate blue with National".

Mr Goff is a former leader of the Labour Party, which is associated with the colour red.

But the ASA said the complaint had no grounds to proceed because Mr Goff is "running as an independent candidate for the Auckland mayoralty", and not as a Labour candidate.

The colour blue is also "strongly associated with Auckland City", the ruling said, and this was probably why Mr Goff chose it.
