Government to fund marine science projects
Projects ranging from investigating undersea canyons to examining seabird distribution will be funded through the Government's Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge.
Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce has announced eight projects chosen to each receive funding of up to $150,000.
"These new projects will help the challenge's aim of of enhancing New Zealand's marine resources, as well as helping New Zealanders to better understand and manage the oceans surrounding us," he said on Monday.
Other projects include using oceanographic forecasting to respond to changes in coastal conditions and studying coastal acidification.
