Little backs down on comment about Shewan
Labour leader Andrew Little has backed down on a comment he made about a leading businessman.
John Shewan, the tax expert appointed to review New Zealand's foreign trust laws, has flatly rejected a claim by Mr Little that he advised the Bahamas government on ways to protect that country's tax haven status.
Today Mr Little reiterated his comments had been based on a report in a Bahamas newspaper.
"After meeting with Mr Shewan, I accept his explanation that while he advised the Bahamas government on tax matters he did not advise them on how to maintain their tax haven status," Mr Little said.
