Prime Minister John Key says he is not rushing into any decision on who his next Education Minister will be.
"We'll have to sort that out, but it's a big portfolio and once you make one change you have to start making other changes," he told More FM on Thursday.
"You could obviously bring someone straight into it, but it would be quite a big call."
He said outgoing Minister of Education Hekia Parata is looking for more of a work-life balance.
"Her husband Sir Wira Gardiner, a great man, he's in his early 70s, he's had a couple of issues recently."
