Harsher penalties for failing to stop
Transport Minister Simon Bridges has introduced a Bill to Parliament that proposes increasing the penalties for failing to stop for the police to up to two years' disqualification.
It also strengthens the power of courts to confiscate the vehicles of repeat offenders.
The Bill also carries a raft of changes to the rules around taxis and other small passenger service vehicles.
Among them is a provision that will give enforcement officers new powers to deal with fare evasion on public transport.
The Bill will go on Parliament's agenda for a first reading.
