Labour Deputy Leader Jacinda Ardern has publicly responded to an "anonymous correspondent" who sent her a hateful message.

Ms Ardern posted a photo on Facebook of the message, which featured a shoddy cut out of her face and a paragraph of text cut from a newspaper, along with a message that reads:

"Who would vote for a woman who has a mouth like a horse (or donkey)?"

But it was the person's use of capitals that Ms Ardern took issue with.

"The irregular use of capitals and slightly off centre clippings in this letter really bothers me. Please pay more attention next time. #itsthelittlethings"

Ms Ardern's response has clearly hit a chord with her Facebook followers  - the post has received more than 4000 likes in three hours.
