Jacinda Ardern announces Ministers for the 52nd New Zealand Government

Prime Minister elect Jacinda Ardern has released the full line-up of her executive team for the next New Zealand Government.

Deputy Prime Minister elect Winston Peters has been named Foreign Affairs Minister, while former Labour leader Andrew Little has been given some of the top roles including Minister of Justice.

Jacinda Ardern will be Minister for Child Poverty Reduction, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and Minister for National Security and Intelligence Issues.

Green co-leader James Shaw will be Minister for Climate Change while Eugenie Sage will be Minister for Conservation - both positions are outside of Cabinet.

Read the full details about the new Ministers and their portfolios below.

1:25pm - Deputy Prime Minister elect Winston Peters said he is "delighted" with the responsibilities given to New Zealand First - the party will have four Ministers and one under-secretary.

Mr Peters, who will be Foreign Minister, plans to speak to Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop this evening and said New Zealand's relationship with Australia is "not what it should be".

Mr Peters said we have a low wage economy and  a higher wage economy will drive productivity.

Shane Jones, (Minister of Forestry, Minister for Infrastructure, Minister for Regional Economic Development) said there is enthusiasm for native forests to be planted, especially on Māori land.

He said there are "infinite projects" needed in the regions.

Mr Peters said the new Goverment is taking over when Māoridom is in "serious crisis in housing, health and all other areas".

12:45pm - James Shaw says that the Ministerial portfolios given to his party will have no bearing on the co-leadership race.

The Green party will elect a new co-leader at its AGM in 2018, to replace Metiria Turei who resigned from her role as the electin campaign was kicking off.

The Green's constitution requires that the new co-leader will be female.

12:30pm - Green co-leader James Shaw says the the party is "absolutely delighted", "proud" and "humbled" over its new Ministerial responsibilities.

He said that threatened species now have a "fighting chance" and people facing domestic and sexual violence "have someone fighting in their corner like I don't think they've seen before".

Mr Shaw and Eugenie Sage are taking on important environmental portfolios.

Incoming Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter says she's looking forward to making "significant" progress towards closing the gender pay gap and it'll be a priority for her.

Jan Logie is looking forward to advising incoming Minister of Justice Andrew Little on domestic and sexual violence issues. She says Mr Little has great integrity and she's "asbolutely stoked" with her new role.

11:45am - While he didn't get to become Deputy Prime Minister, Kelvin Davis is taking on a strong role as Minister of Corrections, Minister for Crown/ Māori relations and Minister of Tourism.

Prime Minister elect Jacinda Ardern has given Minister for Children to NZ First's Tracey Martin, it's a vital role to Ms Ardern who's previously said that child poverty is one of the main reasons she entered politics.

"I asked that Tracey Martin take on the role of Minister for Children. I believe she has the strength to make sure Oranga Tamariki is a strong and successful Ministry," she said.

Ms Ardern will however take on a new portfolio of Minister for Child Poverty Reduction, and she wants to see a child poverty measure introduced - to be included at every Budget.

Winston Peters will once again take up the role of Foreign Affairs Minister in addition to other portfolios and the Deputy Prime Ministership.
