Jacinda Ardern has been given a special gift by one of the world's leading female bosses.

Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg gifted Ms Ardern a framed picture of Kate Sheppard - New Zealand's most famous suffragette.

Ms Ardern was presented with the gift during a meeting at APEC on Friday.

Ms Sandberg is one of the world's top female business leaders - she was the first woman to sit on Facebook's board and also held a top job at Google.

It's the first face to face meeting the pair have had - but they do have one other thing in common. Both were named in the 2017 Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list.

Ms Sandberg came in considerably higher, taking out the number four spot behind German Prime Minister Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Bill Gates' wife, Melinda. Ms Ardern came in at number 38 on the list.

Ms Sandberg also founded the Lean In Foundation and has written a book, Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead.
