New flag could be selected as early as March 2016

The submissions for new flag designs from members of the public finish today.

From here, a shortlist of four alternative designs will be selected by a panel and a new flag could be decided by March next year.

Cultural historian Felicity Barnes joined Paul Henry this morning.

"I think it is a challenge. They have to whittle this down to four designs and look at what the recurring motifs are. I don’t think that’s the best way to go about designing a flag. Currently it feels like a bit of an empty gesture."
