Travelling smart - getting more for less

  • 24/09/2015

In some cities, like London or Hong Kong, you can pay more than $600 for one night's accommodation. But if you shop smart and look elsewhere, it's possible to get premium accommodation for under $200 a night.

"It's really important to choose the right destination when you want 'luxe for less',” says Katherine Cole, Hotels.com Singapore, Australia and New Zealand director.

"Asia in particular is great value for money, if you want a five-star hotel for under $200 a night you should be looking at Asia,"

Ms Cole's picks were hotels in Bangkok, Dubai and Bali.

"Interestingly, around the world there is no one star rating system so you have to be really careful. When you go to different destinations it means something very different…my number-one tip is reading reviews and then you'll actually get a really good understanding of what the hotel offers."
