A leading international relations expert says Islamic State (IS) is continuing its mission to build its international network.

The organisation has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Paris over the weekend, which saw more than 130 killed and 350 injured.

Professor Robert Patman from Otago University told the Paul Henry programme IS has global ambitions.

"It also has a vision of Islam, it believes in a global caliphate under the leadership of its own organisation," he says. "It basically has declared war... on non-believers, and either kills them or enslaves them."
