Slower drivers around schools will keep kids safer and encourage them to walk or cycle says the Green party.

Transport spokeswoman Julie Anne Genter joined Paul Henry to discuss the party’s idea of making 30km/h the default speed limit around schools.

She says if a child is hit by a car at 45km/h they have a 50/50 shot at surviving whereas if they are hit at 30km/h they have a 90 percent shot at surviving.
