Winter is coming.

So the Electricity Authority is urging people to think about their power bills.

Its website whatsmynumber.org.nz allows people to shop around for a good deal.

It says you should think about how you use power and how you want to pay. Some retailers offer different rates depending on how much electricity you use and at what time of the day you use it.

You can request data for your power use for the past 24 months, so you can provide this info to other retailers who are offering you a deal.

The Authority says 419,000 people switched companies in the past year. They saved $162 on average.
