Dan Carter has taken out the Comeback of the Year award at the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin.

Following the disappointment of having to bow out of the 2011 Rugby World Cup with an injury the award recognises Carter’s comeback in helping the All Blacks win the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

He beat out Olympic gold medallists Jessica Ennis-Hill, Michael Phelps, and David Rudisha.

The All Blacks also took out the Team of the Year prize.

The team has made the shortlist five times since 2000 but this is the first time they have taken out the award.

The All Blacks beat NBA champion Golden State Warriors, the Mercedes Formula One team, the Great Britain Davis Cup tennis team and two football juggernauts - European club giants Barcelona and women's world champions the United States.
