Police are ramping up calls for tougher alcohol controls in Auckland.

They're demanding a six‐year freeze on all news pubs and bottle shops in the CBD.

In addition, people would be 'locked out' from entering licensed venues after 1am.

And all bars in the city would be forced to close their doors an hour earlier ‐‐ at 3am.

Will these new rules help curb alcohol‐fuelled violence, or are police missing the point?

Hospitality New Zealand's Auckland Vice President, Russell Gray, spoke to Paul Henry this morning.
