Nigerian police and navy patrols are intensifying efforts to find a group of abducted construction workers, including a Kiwi named as Jamal Khan.

Nothing's been heard from the hostage-takers since they snatched the group of foreigners from the city of Calabar.

The New Zealand Government has already ruled out paying a ransom if it's demanded by the gunmen, which is a very real possibility.

Al Gillespie, International Law Expert from Waikato University says"if you pay ransoms, you create and incentive for terrorist groups or criminal groups to target your citizens."
