Police seized half-a-billion-dollars-worth of methamphetamine in Northland yesterday in abandoned boat with suitcases full of drugs.

The police found 448,000 one gram bags which they say is worth $448million.

They then found an extra 50kgs in the sand dunes.

It’s the biggest bust in New Zealand history and Police say the Kaitaia community had helped stop the drugs getting into the country by keeping police informed about suspicious activity.

Police commissioner Mike Bush and Massey University senior drug researcher Dr Chris Wilkins joined Paul Henry this morning to discuss.
