Doctors threaten strike action

The union representing resident doctors wants urgent mediation with the district health boards over its bid to secure better work hours.

It comes after a survey by the NZ Resident Doctors Association found more than 1000 reported they'd made a mistake that affected a patient as a result of being too tired.

It also found nearly 300 doctors fell asleep at the wheel on their way home from work.

New Zealand Resident Doctors Association national secretary Dr Deborah Powell spoke to Paul Henry this morning.
