Taylor Barnes: The normal five-year-old with an extraordinary heart

Taylor Barnes is a typical five-year-old but with an extraordinary heart.

She loves unicorns, dogs and fairy tale endings because once upon a time, she wasn't the Taylor she is today.

She was born with cardiomyopathy, a rare disease which weakens the muscle. She survived her first year and thrived but earlier this year, she lost her spark.

At only four years old, her heart started to fail and Starship became her home. The only option was for a machine to pump it for her.

But now she has become the youngest Kiwi to get a new heart and although the future is not certain, Taylor can finally start finding her way in the kids' world.
