A Christchurch couple has built a family home which shows bigger is not always better.

A 14-square-metre container is home for builder Steve and architect Angela, as well as their two daughters Charlotte and Amelia.

The family of four are living in the confined quarters while their earthquake-damaged home is demolished and a new home is built.

But in this tiny house there are some big surprises.
