MIT's unique approach to education is turning heads around the world

The School of Secondary-Tertiary Studies is a unique kind of school for New Zealand. 

Incorporating a secondary school and a tertiary institution, students can study NCEA-equivalents, while making a start on tertiary qualifications towards a trades and a career.

This programme has caught some overseas attention and its developer, Dr Stuart Middleton, is flying out to Canada next week, where he'll be a keynote speaker at a tertiary education conference. 

He spoke to Duncan Garner.
