Seen and not heard

This week the UN added its voice to calls for an independent inquiry into historic state abuse in New Zealand.

It follows hundreds of harrowing accounts of mistreatment in state care between 1950 and 1990.

But as Mike Wesley-Smith and Aaron Smale report, while those children went mostly unheard at the time, there were advocates working to uncover their stories.
