Why coffee farmers rely on fair trade bean purchases

For many New Zealanders, having a morning coffee is somewhat of a necessity.

But for around 25 million farmers, growing coffee beans is genuinely necessary - they need it to survive.

On average, coffee farmers are paid about $3 a day - a rate that is neither liveable nor sustainable.
