All Blacks first-five Dan Carter cut a slightly overwhelmed figure post-match as he soaked up the emotion of becoming World Cup champions.
After injury ended his 2011 campaign early, this win was a special one for Carter.
"I'm pretty grateful to be here where I am right now after what happened four years ago," said the 33-year-old. "I'm so proud of this team, it's a dream come true."
Carter nailed a spectacular 40m drop-goal to give the All Blacks a seven point buffer with 10 minutes remaining, willing it over the crossbar as it sailed through the air.
"I was just yelling at the ball, I wasn't sure if I had enough of the ball but I was relieved to see it go over."
"I'm over the moon to finish on such a high, and I'm looking forward to celebrating with my best mates."
