Former Silver Fern Irene van Dyk says she's the fittest she's ever been ahead of her boxing debut in Saturday night's Fight for Life.

With over 200 international netball appearances under her belt, the 43-year-old is no stranger to putting in the hard yards in training, but reckons the full-body workouts in boxing have taken her to another level.

The legendary sharpshooter said she intends to bring her famous accuracy to the ring.

"The main aim for me will be to stay structured. Sometimes it just looks like a brawl and I don't want it to look like a brawl, because we've trained so hard you want to set up shots and do what you've trained for the last 50 days," van Dyk said.

The famously friendly van Dyk also laughed off concerns she's be too nice to be effective in the ring saying "everyone will have mongrel in them if they're being punched!"
