Levi Sherwood's dream of a second X-Fighters World Championship has been ended at this year's sole event at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid.

The 24 year old Kiwi produced a strong run to top his group in front of a rabid crowd of 24,000 at the converted bullring.

But his path to the final was blocked by three time defending Madrid champion Thomas Pages.  The Frenchman had been underwhelming in qualifying and finished second in his group, much to the determent of Sherwood.

Despite a solid semi final run, Sherwood was no match for an inspired Pages, who's energetic performance saw him awarded the round unanimously by the 5 judges.

It continues a frustrating trend for Sherwood, who was beaten by Pages in last year's final in Madrid.

Pages went on to become the first four time winner at the spiritual home of freestyle motocross, defeating 2015 World Champ Clinton Moore and fellow Aussie Josh Sheehan in the final.
