Scott Dixon dominates Watkins Glen but can't save season

Scott Dixon has delivered his drive of the season, but it won't be enough to save his season.

The defending IndyCar champ led for 50 of the 60 laps at Watkins Glen to claim his 40th career victory, but rival Simon Pagenaud already has one hand on the title.

After a record breaking lap to claim pole position, no-one was going to bet against Dixon.

The Kiwi was nothing short of perfect in upstate New York, and by the time the race had reached quarter distance, he was out of reach.

But so too was the title for Dixon, and just after mid-distance, the series was all but decided, when one of the two remaining championship contenders Will Power was spiked by Charlie Kimball.

That left the seventh placed Simon Pagenaud needing to do little more than turn up at the final round in Sonoma to become the 2016 champ.
