It's been criticised for being too long and too complicated, but rugby fans will be served up more of the same when Super Rugby returns in 2017.

The draw for next season's been released, with broadcasting commitments meaning no changes to the existing format.

This year's edition of Super rugby attracted 50 million viewers and two million spectators.

Governing body SANZAAR says it's a super competition, but for many fans and players, it's super confusing.

"The format to be honest - I don't understand it - I just play and hope for the best," said Crusaders flanker Jordan Taufua.

The next season will have some potential rippers, the Crusaders will even host the Highlanders in a game that kicks off at 2:35pm on a Saturday (June 3rd).

But then again, the season opener between the Blues and the Rebels in Melbourne on a Thursday night is hardly marketing genius.
