Jordan Tai chasing title glory at Big Bash

One man keen to get on the Joseph Parker undercard is super middleweight Jordan Tai.

On Saturday he'll headline Big Bash 6, fighting for the New Zealand Professional Boxing Association title.

In his previous fight fight Tai dusted himself off to finish the previously unbeaten Joe Blackborn in the first round, and trainer Chris Martin would love a repeat of that performance.

"He likes to fight, and he'll roll the dice sometimes and takes risks but try and just lock that down a bit and be a bit more conservative - set a few traps and be patient," said Martin.

While it's just his 10th pro boxing bout, Tai has plenty of experience to draw on having his made his name as a kick boxer.

But at 34 years of age, getting kicked just isn't an option anymore.

"The body can't take the punishment as much as I used to so I thought there's got to be an easier way, and boxing was it," said Tai.

As well as a New Zealand title, the IBO oceania super middle weight belt is on the line, and that could put Tai in line for a World title shot.

"If he wins this regional title it gets him into the top 15, then if he can get a fight with someone in the top 15 and wins that, I think he could be looking at a shot," notes Martin.

Now that would be worth celebrating.
