Keven Mealamu ticks off bucket list for kindergarten teacher

Family Feud contestant Dianne Snell revealed on the show she was Keven Mealamu's kindergarten teacher more than 30 years ago.

She hasn't seen the rugby player since but said it was on her bucket list to reconnect with him so Story and Family Feud decided to help Ms Snell tick one thing off her bucket list before Christmas.

Ms Snell, who retired from teaching at 71 years old, had no idea of the surprise her daughter and grandchildren had in store for her.

"Out walked this young man and the more I looked, the more I realised it's Keven, my boy from kindergarten. I just can't believe it."

Believing she was going to have a family lunch at Villa Maria, she was speechless when approached by Mealamu.

"She must have been thinking, ‘not this naughty kid again?’ I thought I got rid of him when he went to school," says Mealamu, who attended kindergarten in Tokoroa.

"It's been pretty amazing being able to see Dianne and for her to say that I did a bit of art back in kindergarten," says the All Blacks player who has since illustrated children's books for Starship Hospital.

"He was such a lovely kid and I admire him so much as a man," says Ms Snell who had no inkling of the surprise visit.
