Black Ferns thump South Africa in Dubai Sevens

The Black Ferns Sevens have thumped South Africa 39-0 in the Dubai sevens women's quarter-finals to set up a semi-final clash with Russia.

The New Zealanders ran in seven unanswered tries, Portia Woodman and Michaela Blyde both picking up hat-tricks, with Sarah Goss completing the tally.

Russia edged Canada 17-7 in their quarter-final, while Olympic champions Australia overwhelmed France 42-0 to set up a semi-final against England, who edged Fiji 19-17.

The Kiwis were missing Niall Williams and Tenika Willison with head knocks from pool play, while Shakira Baker was sidelined with a knee injury.

The Black Ferns Sevens had earlier topped pool B after downing Ireland 27-5, Fiji 19-10 and France 31-0, Blyde leading the way with five tries.
