Highlights: West Ham United move nine clear of drop zone with big win over Crystal Palace

West Ham United have scored three vital goals, including a contender for the goal of the season, to put Crystal Palace further in danger of relegation at a fever pitch London Olympic Stadium.

The first half was rather a forgettable one for fans as West Ham without the troubled playmaker Dimitri Payet looked to struggle against a lowly Palace who fall further toward the drop, out of the bottom three only on goal difference

Despite going into the half at 0-0, West Ham did have most of the run of the match with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio really standing up for the Hammers.

The deadlock was broken after Antonio rounded the keeper after a through ball before pulling it back perfectly for Sofiane Ferghouli, shortly after a tactical switch by West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.

The second goal was pure brilliance from big front man Andy Carroll who latched on to Antonio's cross mid-air to thump a left-foot effort past helpless Eagles keeper Wayne Hennessey.

"It's a terrific finish from Andy Carroll and he's always had that in his locker," said new Crystal Palace Manager Sam Allardyce after the match.

"The volley was outstanding."

The result was put out of doubt four minutes from time with Lanzini capping off a memorable performance, chipping the ball past goalkeeper Hennessey.

The result would have been a welcome distraction from the Payet saga and sees West Ham move up to 12th on the English Premier League table, in a much better position than they were prior to Christmas.
