New Zealand Breakers not rushing Tom Abercrombie into side for must-win matches

Key shooting guard Tom Abercrombie is rumoured to be fit ahead of the New Zealand Breakers' must-win match against the Cairns Taipans but the team is cautious of rushing the 29 year-old back into the side.

Fortunes have fast reversed for the Breakers who made it four straight on Sunday with a win over the Perth Wildcats, a team who've had it over them in the past.

"We're still literally in the same position we were before. We need to keep winning games," Henare told journalists of the side's predicament.

"I don't know how many, we're just got to win on Thursday then keep worrying about the rest of them after that."

Breakers player Alex Pledger said the Breakers never lost the belief that they could be there at the business end of the season.

"We never lost confidence that we could get in the position we are now," Pledger said.

We've still got a lot of work to do, we're definitely not safe but four wins on the trot we're definitely feeling pretty good about ourselves."

Abercrombie fractured his hand just six days before Christmas and his absence has been key for the Breakers.

News of his recovery will certainly improve the Breakers' chances of making the playoffs.

However, they're cautious of bringing him back into the team too quickly with Abercrombie watching yet another training from the sidelines on Tuesday.

"[The team] is obviously having a lot of success and getting some good wins," Abercrombie said

"It's frustrating as always not to be out there and helping, hopefully that'll change soon.
