Oklahoma City Thunder point-guard Russell Westbrook has missed out on a starting spot in the Western Conference All-Star starters.

Westbrook lost a voting tiebreaker with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and Houston Rockets guard James Harden. Former teammate Kevin Durant, San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leornad and New Orleans Pelicans centre Anthony Davis are the other starters out West.

Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and DeMar DeRozon of the Toronto Raptors have been named the starters of the Eastern-Conference All-Stars.

Fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote to determine the starters. Current players and the media accounted for 25 percent each.

Westbrook is the two-time defending All-Star game most valuable player.

Westbrook will defiantly be a lock for the Western conference reserves which will be announced next Thursday (local time). The reserves are chosen by current NBA head coaches.

A number of current NBA players were shocked at the news Westbrook was not named as a starter.

This year's All-Star Game will take place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Feb. 19.
