Russian snowboarders horse around in new extreme sport

Russians have taken on a new extreme sport - horseboarding - and it's snow joke.

The winter sport is pretty self-explanatory and only requires minimal equipment, with snowboarders tethering themselves to the horse.

"I want something new all the time. It's like a drug, when you've tried one thing and then you want more and more," pioneering horseboarder Aleksandr Ryzahkin says.

"We can't find nearby mountains bigger than they are here, and we can't change this, we can't make a slope bigger. But we're able to change the pulling force."

Ryzahkin tried to amp up his snowboarding by trailing behind a car, a motorcycle and a snowmobile, but couldn't use them in forests or on frozen lakes.

Enter Margarita Khalikova, an experienced horse rider, and her stallion Vulkan. Together with a harness usually used to pull sledges, they've created a sport they insist is more fun than traditional skiing.

A similar form of the extreme sport can also be found in the UK, which lacks the snow found in the Russian iteration and instead of using a snowboard, makes use of a mountain board.
