Video: Team New Zealand building towards the future

This year will be a big year for sailing, with Team New Zealand set to sail the America's Cup in Bermuda.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's Youth Training Programme has produced a number of our top sailors, and to ensure they keep up that trend, they're keeping pace with the changing shape of sailing.

To achieve that, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has added a pair of foiling Nacra 20 catamarans and a new Performance Programme, building on the success of the Youth Training Programme that's been producing world-class sailors for the past 30 years.

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron youth training sailing director Laurie Jury believes the new steps put in place are the best thing for the development of our younger sailors.

"We really talk to Team New Zealand about what we need to do and make sure we have the right kind of pathway to get there," says Jury.

"The boats are so fast and it's a much more physical game these days, so we've set up a gym in the training centre so the young guys know what's involved."

Hopefully with these new steps in place, it means more sailing success in New Zealand's future.
