Video: World's best waterskiers come together for Asia-Oceania Championships

Five different waterski disciplines will come together for the first time in New Zealand next week, at the Asia-Oceania Championships.

The five disciplines are tournament, barefoot, ski-racing, wakeboarding and show-skiing.

More than 200 skiers from 11 countries will race, jump and flip across Lake Karapiro and Lake Kereta, north of Auckland.

One of New Zealand's top waterskiers, Alex King, is excited to have the championships in New Zealand.

"I've always dreamed of having a worlds or Asia-Oceania Championships in New Zealand," said King.

"It's kind of cool to come home to a big tournament instead of having to travel."

King has come back from the US for the Championships, where he is currently on a scholarship.

The event will run from January 30 through to February 5.
