Blackcaps coach Mike Hesson wants side to put 159-run loss in the rear view mirror

Blackcaps coach Mike Hesson says his side needs to put Saturday night's blowout 159-run loss behind them and focus on winning the ODI series against world number one South Africa.

The Blackcaps crumbled to 112 all out after the Proteas set them 272 for victory in Wellington.

Speaking to RadioLIVE's Sunday sport, Hesson said the massive loss was 'unexpected' but they have to focus on the fourth ODI in Hamilton on Wednesday.

"We were certainly put under pressure by the way South Africa bowled and we certainly didn't respond in a way you would expect," said Hesson.

"We were very frustrated last night in our performance when we were put under pressure.

"When you have a performance you are not happy with, you can't dwell on it for too long because cricket is about being consistent."

Wednesday's showdown was originally scheduled to be played at McLean park in Napier, but due to the drainage situation during the Chappell-Hadlee Series, New Zealand Cricket opted to move the match to Hamilton.

Hesson said even though the Blackcaps enjoy the batting-friendly surface in Napier, it was for the best that the match was moved to another venue.

"They obviously did a fairly conclusive report following the last game and in the end it was a decision that everybody agreed needed to be made."

"It's disappointing because we love playing at Napier."

With the match now in Hamilton the Blackcaps have called in veteran spin bowler Jeetan Patel which  will l give the home side an extra spin-option as the weigh up the pitch conditions.

"I think based off history the spinners were particularly difficult to play [at Seddon Park]."

"We know we are more likely to play at least a couple of spinners compared to four seamers so it made sense to have the options there."

Along with Patel, the Blackcaps have also recalled Martin Guptill who has fully recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of the first three ODI's.

The 30-year old will likely open for the Blackcaps on Wednesday, but the question is who will open the batting with him.

Tom Latham is under huge pressure to score runs as the Cantabrian has scored a grand total of two-runs in three games this series.

Hesson didn't say if Latham would be dropped for the match, but it seems like h the wickekkeeping gloves will go to Luke Ronchi.

"We mentioned at the start of the series we would provide both keepers with opportunities."

"Tom has done a very good job in terms of keeping. There is no doubt he is short of runs and he is aware of that

"Without Martin Guptill we were constricted in terms of our options but Luke will get some opportunities to keep in the next two ODIs.

"We have win two games to win a series against the world number one we know we have to play well."

The final match is in Auckland on Saturday.
