An unchanged New Zealand side are batting first after South Africa won the toss for the second one-day international at Christchurch's Hagley Oval.

The Black Caps have retained their twin-spin attack of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi, resisting any urge to introduce additional pace to the side who lost the series opener by four wickets in Hamilton on Sunday.

Captain Kane Williamson says he would have also bowled first on a pitch which appears to be hard but could provide some early seam life.

South Africa have made three changes, with injury playing a part.

Batsman David Miller is available after shaking off a finger complaint and replaces Farhaan Berhadien.

Pace bowler Kagiso Rabada has picked up a knee niggle and makes way for Wayne Parnell.

Allrounder Dwaine Pretorious will play his first match of the tour, having arrived late following the berth of his first child. He replaces Tabraiz Shamsi.

The match is the only day game of the five-match series.

New Zealand are unbeaten in five ODIS at the ground while South Africa have never played an international match at the venue.
