Claudio Ranieri has released an emotional statement less than 24 hours after being sacked as manager by Leicester City.

Last year, Ranieri led the Foxes to one of the most remarkable sporting feats ever achieved. However he was unceremoniously dumped on Friday (NZ time) due to the team's poor form in the 2016/17 season.

"Yesterday my dream died," the statement says.

"After the euphoria of last season and being crowned Premier League Champions all I dreamt of was staying with Leicester City, the Club I love, for always.

"Sadly this was not to be."

Ranieri goes on to thank his family before thanking the club itself.

"Mostly I have to thank Leicester City Football Club. The adventure was amazing and will live with me forever.

Speculation was rife as to the reasons of Ranieri's dumping with reports surfacing suggesting that the Italian had lost the support of the players.
