Footballer saves rival's life - for the fourth time on a field

A football game in the Czech Republic may have been blighted by a death if not for the quick thinking of an opposition player - who has now saved four players' lives in his career.

Striker Francis Kone, a Togolese player who plies his trade for Slovacko, made a hugely important contribution after Bohemians goalkeeper Martin Berkovec was involved in an unfortunate clash with teammate Daniel Krch.

Realising that Berkovec was unconscious and struggling to breathe, Kone placed his fingers inside his mouth and prevented him swallowing his tongue.

Berkovec was rushed to a hospital in Prague and has made a full recovery - and he took to Facebook to thank the man who saved him.

"I would like to thank Francis Kone for his quick action in saving me during today's match. I am grateful for the prompt help, and once again THANK YOU!!!"

After the game, Kone revealed that it was not the first time he had intervened to save the life of a fellow player - he said he had also rescued two people in Africa and one in Thailand during his career.
